H.E. Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan met at Presidential Palace with Sweden’s Defense Minister, Peter Hultqvist .
Enhancing bilateral relations, Sweden’s cooperation with Afghanistan in the areas of education and good governance and its enduring support to Afghan Security Forces under Resolute Mission, were the issues discussed in this meeting.
Minister Hultqvist reiterated his government’s durable cooperation with Afghanistan and sought for President Ghani’s idea over the ways keeping this cooperation continued.
Thanking Sweden for giving military and civil assistance to Afghanistan, President Ghani attached vital importance and values to Sweden’s cooperation with Afghanistan under the Resolute Mission and urged on its prolongation.
President Ghani commended the durable support of Sweden to Afghanistan within Resolute Support Mission, and described continuation of Sweden’s support as highly significant in maintaining peace and stability in Afghanistan and the region. The President expressed his gratitude to Sweden for assistance to Afghanistan over the last 13 years in various areas.
Minister Peter Hultqvist reiterated his country’s long-term commitment to Afghanistan and hoped that Sweden’s commitment could result to further growth and expansion of bilateral relations.
Security and stability in Afghanistan and in the region, and fighting the common threats were the other topics discussed between the two sides.
At the end of the meeting, Defense Minister Peter Hultqvist invited President Ghani for an official visit to Sweden that was returned with thanks from the President’s side saying he would pay a visit to Sweden in a convenient time.
