On 4 December, President Ghani met Speaker Urban Ahlin at the Riksdag.
“Swedish commitment to Afghanistan goes way back. Sweden has contributed, and will continue to contribute, to development and security in Afghanistan in various ways. There is broad-based support in the Swedish Parliament for these activities, although at times the debate has been quite heated. So I invited representatives of several parties and committees to the meeting. We enjoyed a rewarding dialogue with the President on various issues,” says Speaker Urban Ahlin.
The meeting was also attended by Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister H.E. Salahuddin Rabbani, Finance Minister H.E. Eklil Ahmad Hakimi and Labour and Social Affairs Minister H.E. Dr. Nasrin Oryakhil. Party officials and members of various committees attended from the Swedish Parliament.
During the meeting, the situation in Afghanistan and Swedish support to the development of the country through aid and security operations were discussed. Another topic of conversation was migration issues.
The President’s visit to Sweden took place on the 75th year of the establishment of the Diplomatic Relations between Afghanistan and Sweden.
