The role and responsibility of the Consular Section of the Embassy is to certify the authenticity of ID documents issued by official authorities in Afghanistan or abroad. The Embassy also facilitates the process of obtaining a “Tazkira in absentia” based on the Tazkira of the immediate family members of the applicants.

Applicants who apply for ID certificate or passport at the Embassy of Afghanistan in Stockholm are required to submit essential ID documents issued by Afghan authorities.

1- A passport or ID certificate can not be issued in the absence of essential documents. The applicant has to contact his/her parents or relatives to obtain essential ID documents, such as Tazkira, school enrollment card, driving license, higher education document or birth certificate. In order to apply for e-Passport or ID certificate, an essential ID document has to be submitted to the Consular Section of the Embassy. Applications can be processed after the verification of the above mentioned documents.

All ID documents issued in Afghanistan must be certified by the Consular Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or Provincial Offices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; similar documents issued abroad must be certified by the Embassy of Afghanistan in the respective country.

LMA card or any other ID card issued by non-Afghan institutions cannot be accepted as proof of ID.

2- If the person has a copy of personal Tazkira or any other ID document issued by the governmental institutions in AFGHANISTAN, or if the applicant is in the possession of the registration particularities and registration details of an ID document issued in AFGHANISTAN, the applicant needs to send it to the following email address for careful consideration and verification: consulate@embassyofafghanistan.se verfication@embassyofafghanistan.se
A telephone number is also required for contact purposes. The person will be informed of any progress and therefore, please do not contact us for this purpose. In most of the cases it takes up to three months to receive a reply from the relevant institutions.

3- If the applicant is not in the possession of any ID document, he/she has to attend the Consular Section of the Embassy based on prior appointment www.embassyofafghanistan.se/appointment

LMA card holders can attend the Consular Section of the Embassy between 10:00 to 13:00 Monday to Thursday without prior appointment.

The Consular Section of the Embassy is closed on Fridays. 

After careful consideration of their paperwork and receipt of adequate information from relevant official authorities in Afghanistan, the applicant will be provided with a certificate of identification.

4- All applicants under the above conditions are entitled to receive a letter from the Consular Section of the Embassy of Afghanistan confirming that their documents are under further verification. This letter may assist them to reschedule their interview time with the relevant institutions in Sweden. The letter cannot be used as an ID document.
